Outlook is used by both private and business users as it helps people to manage all the messages in an Outlook calendar. Outlook provides users with several remarkable features, and one such feature is Outlook search which is imperative to those who have to send and reply to many emails daily. The biggest advantage of this feature is that you don't need to search through all the folders. You can easily view a filtered section of related messages by entering a search term. But, there are times when Outlook search stops working, and users have to suffer a lot. However, the issue of Outlook search not working has become pretty common now and can be fixed by some simple steps provided in this guide.

Solution 1: Initiate a Quick Fix

  1. First of all, click on the Search Icon and type Control Panel.
  2. From the Control Panel, you need to go to Programs and then click on Programs and Features.
  3. Then, select your Office client and choose Change.
  4. Next, pick Quick Repair and wait while this process is running.

Now, try to use Outlook when it's done.

Solution 2: Change sleep-time

If you have too many emails saved on your Outlook client, you should consider giving the time required for the reindex operation. The reindexing process will begin when archiving is performed, and if the sleep time determines your system to enter sleep mode, the index operation will cease. Thus, set the sleep time to a minimum of 5 hours before you start archiving your emails.

Solution 3: Rebuild the MS Outlook Search Index

  1. Run Outlook and then click on the File menu.
  2. Go to Options and click Search.
  3. Then, go to Indexing Options and then click Advanced.
  4. Now, switch to the Index Settings tab, and from the Troubleshooting section, click on the Rebuild option.

Solution 4: Fix OST/PST corruption issues

The Outlook client has a built-in scan program that automatically repairs OST/PST corruptions. So, you need to run the scanpst.exe executable file. You can search for this by using the default Windows search box, or you can also locate the file under C: Program Files Microsoft Office. That was all about how you can fix Outlook search not working issues. Hope the given solutions help you in getting your problem fixed.
